A little advice from our family to yours
Chandelier care & FAQs.
Not sure how to look after your chandelier, or what’s involved in cleaning or installation? Here are a few answers to help you get started.
Every chandelier is a little different. If you’re unsure about yours, send us a photo or give us a call—we’re happy to talk it through.
01 / Looking after your chandelier
Everyday care.
How often should my chandelier be professionally cleaned?
There isn’t one timetable that suits every chandelier. It depends on the room, how quickly dust builds up and whether there’s a film on the crystal. If yours is looking dull, send us a photo and tell us when it was last cleaned. We can talk about whether it needs attention now or a regular cleaning arrangement.
What can I do between professional cleans?
Start with the maker’s care instructions. If they allow light dusting, use a soft, dry duster without pulling on the crystal. Only attempt this where you can reach comfortably and safely, with the electricity isolated and the bulbs cool. Leave high, loose or delicate parts alone; ask us if you’re unsure.
Can I use a spray cleaner on my chandelier?
We wouldn’t suggest a general spray-and-drip method without knowing the fitting. A cleaner suitable for crystal may not suit its metal finish or other parts. Follow the maker’s instructions and keep liquid away from electrical components. For our cleaning service, we work through the pieces by hand rather than spraying the chandelier.
How should I look after the metalwork and finishes?
Use the maker’s guidance for the particular finish. Avoid abrasive pads and unapproved polishes or cleaning products. Plated, painted and lacquered surfaces can need different care. If you don’t know what the finish is, leave it as it is and send us a close-up before trying to polish it.
02 / Our cleaning service
Cleaning visits.
How do you clean a chandelier?
We clean by hand, working through the individual crystal and glass pieces and removing them where needed. Before we start, we’ll discuss the chandelier’s condition, its finish and how we can reach it. You can see some of us at work on our chandelier cleaning page.
Does my chandelier need to be taken down?
Not necessarily. We’ll need to look at the chandelier, where it hangs and the work it needs before agreeing the approach. Send a photo of the whole fitting and a wider view of the room. We’ll explain what can be done in place and whether anything needs to be removed.
Can you work above stairs or at a high ceiling?
Get in touch and show us the space. The ceiling height, staircase and surrounding furniture all help us plan access. We’ll need to agree suitable access arrangements and any equipment before confirming the work, so please don’t try to reach a high chandelier just to take a close-up.
How long will a visit take, and should I prepare anything?
That depends on the size, number of pieces, condition and access. We’ll discuss the likely time and arrangements when we quote. Tell us about nearby furniture, delicate surfaces and any restrictions on working hours. We’ll agree what needs clearing and how the surrounding area will be protected before we arrive.
03 / When something needs attention
Restoration & repairs.
Can you help with an antique chandelier or missing crystal?
We’re happy to take a look. Send an overall photo, a close-up of the damage or missing piece, and any maker details or history you have. What’s possible depends on the chandelier and the parts available; we’ll need to assess it before promising a repair or a matching replacement. Our restoration page explains a little more.
What should I do if a piece looks loose or damaged?
Leave it alone and keep people clear of the area underneath. Don’t pull, twist or try to refit a hanging piece. If you can take a photo from a safe position, send it to us and explain what you’ve noticed. We can then discuss the next step.
What if I’m worried about the wiring or lights?
Stop using the chandelier if you suspect an electrical fault and arrange for a registered electrician to assess it. Don’t try to repair wiring yourself. You’re welcome to tell us about the concern when discussing restoration, but any electrical work needs a suitably qualified person.
04 / Hanging your chandelier
Installation & load testing.
Do you install chandeliers?
Yes, we install chandeliers in homes and venues across the UK. Tell us about the fitting and where you’d like it to hang. We’ll talk through the support, access and electrical work needed before agreeing the job. Our chandelier installation page explains how to get started.
What is weight load testing, and do you do it?
It’s a check of the support and fixings that will carry the chandelier’s weight. We weight test every chandelier for safety and security. The arrangements depend on the fitting and where it hangs, so we’ll talk those through with you.
It’s separate from checking the wiring or electrical connections, which need a suitably qualified electrician. If you’re planning an installation, send us a photo of the chandelier and the room and we’ll discuss what’s needed.
05 / Getting started
Quotes & booking.
What do you need to give me a quote?
An overall photo, your location and a little about what needs doing are a good start. Rough dimensions, ceiling height and a wider photo of the room help too. If there’s damage, include a close-up where you can take one safely. Don’t worry if you don’t know the chandelier’s age or maker.
What affects the cost of cleaning or restoration?
The size, number of pieces, condition and access all make a difference, as does whether you have more than one chandelier. Restoration may also involve assessing damage and finding suitable parts. We’ll need to understand the job before giving you a price, so please get in touch with a few details.
Which areas do you cover?
We work across the UK. Let us know your postcode or project location when you contact us, and we’ll discuss the arrangements and availability for your job.
Can you arrange regular cleaning for homes or businesses?
Yes, you can ask us about annual cleaning and work in hotels, restaurants and other venues as well as private homes. Tell us how many chandeliers you have and when the space is available. We’ll discuss a practical schedule and whether visits can fit around your opening hours.
